Finding the right cream and soap for your skin

Finding the cream and soap that is right for your skin is very personal. Although there are general facts to take into consideration, it is also a fact that you must love the cream and soap you use and feel comfortable using them.

Our black skin has very high amount of melanin and it is well adapted for our tropical environment. Our skin tolerates more sun but we have to take care so we do not incure damages that may become visible in the future due to over exposire to the natural elemrnts in our environment.

Moisturizers

Because black skin tends to be dry and greyish, especially during harmattan it is essential that we moisturize our skin daily. Using moisturizers that have humectants which attract water, keeping the skin soft, is helpful.

It is also important that you wash your skin daily with a moisturizing body wash that contain ingredients like urea, glycerin, dimethicone, or hyaluronic acid.

Exposure to sun

Most of us spend a lot of time in the sun. While sunlight is good for the skin, over-exposure is not good. It is important that you use sunscreen with SPF of 15 or higher to protect your skin from overexposure to the sun. SPF refers to the amount of UVB protection a sunscreen offers. We tend to sometimes over exaggerate how much tolerance our black skin has for sunlight. Sunlight can still do a lot of damage to your skin if you overexpose it. Over-exposure to the sun can result in wrinkling of the skin and cancer of the skin too. Using umbrellas often during dry season and when the sun is high is good practice.

What you Eat and Drink

Finally, watch what you eat and drink. In a warm environment like Nigeria, it is advisable to drink enough water and often too. Eating healthy diet with plenty of fruits, nuts, vegetables among other will keep your skin health and radiant.

When choosing your cream consider a cream that is easy to apply and easy to absorb by your skin. Creams containing Vitamin E which is a powerful antioxidant should be considered.

Important fact

It is important that you understand your skin and by carefully testing different creams and bathing soaps over time you will find the ones that are perfect for you.
